Q. What should I wear? A. Layers are always best in the changeable Bay Area (see Weather below), so be prepared for anything from cool to warm temperatures. A windbreaker and light fleece or sweater over a t-shirt or tank top are ideal. Secure shoes with flat, non-scuff soles are best (high heels, slip-ons or flip flops not recommended). Don’t forget your sunglasses, sunscreen, and sun hat – all hats should be able to be secured in strong wind. Bring a bathing suit for sunbathing or even swimming at appropriate destinations.
Q. What kind of weather can I expect on the Bay? A. The weather in the Bay Area is composed of a series of micro systems and conditions change frequently throughout the day and in different areas. Generally the best weather is from April – May and September – November. The winter is moderate with many days in the 60s and 70s and, while summer is warmer, short cold spells are a regular San Francisco summer phenomenon. Light winds and warmer water in the fall make cruising quite comfortable late in the year, though Dragonfly’s fully enclosed cockpit makes cruising pleasant in any climate.
Q. What should I bring? A. Dragonfly is fully equipped with all the safety necessities as well as the luxuries of fine yachting, including state of the art entertainment center and staterooms stocked with fine hotel quality linens and a TV/DVD in each. Our galley is fully equipped for food preparation from light snacks to full course meals. All you need to bring is food and beverage (see below for additional info), camera or video, and your sense of adventure! Do feel free to bring your iPod, music CDs, or DVD movies if you have any particular favorites, but we have a full collection available on board.
Q. What about food and beverage and can you assist with provisioning? A. Yes, we would be glad to help. Our staff can provide you with complete provisioning service for a flat service charge plus reimbursement for expenses, so your food and drink can be already on the yacht when you arrive. You should also know that some of the finest gourmet grocery stores are located near our docks in San Francisco and Alameda.
Q. Do you offer one-way charters? A. Yes, you can Charter one-way between any of our destinations.
Q. What about ship-to-shore communications? A. Dragonfly is outfitted with a cellular repeater to amplify the signal of most major carriers, enhancing reception of your phone and wireless internet device. Bring your power adapters as there are 110 outlets throughout the boat. All electrical is true sine and safe for your computers and electronic devices.
Q. Are there charts on the boat? A. We will provide charts for known destinations on each cruise. On overnight charters, you may keep them as souvenirs of your trip with us.
Q. Can we spend a night at the dock? A. Sure, many of our guests like to spend the evening on the boat before taking off for their cruise the following day.
